When I first contemplated starting a staging business, I imagined I would have packages of styles in which to choose from, like, the modern package or the traditional package etc. It would be a specific style I could keep together and take off the shelf, so to speak, when I needed it. Although that would be efficient and cost effective it simply isn’t that easy when staging a home. Just like every person is unique every space is too. Every space has a personality that never wants to be in a package off the shelf. I find that carefully mixing styles is the most successful and eye popping way to stage.

Don’t be afraid to use a combination of patterns, eras, styles, furniture, textiles, and more to get the personality of the space across. For example, throw gramma’s antique rocking chair into an ultra-modern living room. Use metal industrial pieces with cottage chic. mixing the style pallets makes for more visual interest and keeps the space exciting.

Be thoughtful and a bit restrained when staging. Always allow proper space for each piece of furniture. Ensure that regardless of the style, each furniture piece is functional and enhances the space that it occupies.

You will know you have accomplished making the space beautiful, inviting, interesting, and comfortable when you can’t walk around the room without smiling, and you don’t want to leave. More importantly your buyers don’t want to leave.
