Ah, the possibilities of a New Year! While you are sitting there with your cup of coffee thinking about what those possibilities could mean for you personally, allow me to recommend a few resolutions to apply to your home! I mean, why not? You spend a lot of time there. Why not make it the best it can be too.

“Your home should be a reflection of how you want to live right now and for the next phase of your life” Martha Stewart

As a stager and real estate broker, I know the impact a beautiful space can have on the people in it and the environment around it.

I’ve put together a list of 5 home resolutions you can make in 2022 that will help your home support you in living your best life!

Make it meaningful

We live in a city full of amazing artists. There’s no need for store-bought art that doesn’t make your soul sing. Swap it out for local artwork and accessories that make for good stories and start conversations. Add family photos and your favorite authors to shelves.

Love it, or lose it

What’s important to you? Your home decor should reflect that. Worry more about whether something brings you joy than rather it fits a conventional design form. If you love entertaining, then get an outdoor bar cart. Love reading? Add a comfy chair and floor lamp to your living room. Take inventory of what you are using because ‘it works’ and make a plan to replace it with something you love. Life is too short to keep using a kitchen knife that drives you crazy. Lose it. Donate or sell what you don’t love.

Be Brave

Do you love bold colors but are too afraid to try them in your house. Be BRAVE! You can always change the paint. Get creative. Want to try adding a stencil? Make THIS the year you try it! Start small if that helps. Change out a light fixture with something that makes a statement or paint a piece of furniture to give it a facelift. The start of a new year is the perfect time to channel your home design dreams.

Organize and declutter

Don’t wait until Spring. Organizing and decluttering is the fastest way to make your house feel better. Sort and store. It’s hard to keep a house clean if everything doesn’t have a place to go. Get some new containers to make the process feel more fun for you. There are a million options to consider. In fact, that might be my next blog!

Finish THAT project

What have you been talking about for the last year that you want to do in the house? Or what have you started and keep meaning to finish but haven’t found the time? NOW is the time. Make this the year you FINISH that project. Have you been wanting to rework your sunroom into an office or clean out the garage? NOW is the time. Do you want to finish the attic space or add a deck? NOW is the time. I don’t want to hear you talking about THAT project at this time next year. Do it!
